Here's The Truth About Rats

Here's The Truth About Rats
Here's The Truth About Rats
Rats get bad press.  People are often talking about them damaging their property and spreading diseases.  They are seen as being unhygienic and unfriendly.

Rats are often thought be solitary but in fact they are highly social animals. They prefer to be in a group with their friends and family, rather than being on their own for any length of time. Otherwise they become sad, upset and even show signs of depression.  They communicate with their comrades by moving their eyes backwards and forwards very quickly. They also vibrate their teeth against each other and indicating their thoughts and feelings to each other with their tails.

Rats do nine billion dollars worth of damage to property every year in the US alone, according to a study from 2009.  It is often considered that rats do this maliciously. In fact they are often either looking for food and shelter or they are wearing their teeth down. They need to grind them down constantly to make up for the fact that they grow continuously throughout their lives.  Astoundingly they grow at between four and a half and five and a half inches a year.
