How Much Damage Can One Rat Do?

How Much Damage Can One Rat Do?
There is currently a growing rat problem in the UK. Giant rats have been photographed scurrying down alleyways and dead ones have been found blocking drains. The problem seems to be worsening.

Rats are capable of doing a huge amount of financial damage in only a short space of time because they chew wires and pipes. If they hit a few strategically placed wires in an expensive piece of hardware the damage could easily run to tens of thousands of pounds. This is particularly true when you think about the loss of productivity which arises out of having the equipment out of action.

A single rat could do this damage in only a few hours. This is the problem with current pest control methods; miss just one rat and you might have yourself a serious problem. A new invention is setting out to solve this. Hammer Technologies uses patent pending technology to protect your expensive hardware. Those nibbling little teeth can cause havoc.

So why do rats do so much damage in this way? There are three main reasons that rats chew and destroy all things. The first two are in the case that they are searching for food or a warm place to live. The second is that their sharp front teeth grow throughout their lives. This leads them to need to grind them away otherwise they become unable to eat. This is the reason that they target wires and hard materials for them to gnaw on in order that they are effective at grinding their teeth away. Otherwise they become unable to eat and their teeth become painful, cutting into their gums and opposite jaw.

This is what leads to the majority of the $9 billion worth of damage caused by rats every year in the US alone.
