Culture And Rats

Culture And Rats
Culture And Rats
Rats are prevalent in culture and are portrayed in many ways, both positive and negative.

For example, in the beautiful Hindu religion the creatures are considered to be the earthly vehicle for Ganesha. He is the elephant god and his temples will always be found to have a statue of a rat in them.  The renowned Karni Mata Temple is over-run with thousands of rats which are fed daily by the monks with grain and milk.  It is famous and many pilgrims visit every year.  The rats are thought to reincarnate as Sadhus who are Hindu holy men.

The first sign of the Chinese zodiac is the rat and those people born as rats are thought to be intelligent, loyal and wasteful. These are rat characteristics.

Conversely, in the famous Isle of Man, an island off the beautiful north-western edge of England 'Rats' is a taboo word. In fact, the word is used as an expletive in many countries around the world.  This is probably because of their association with the transmission of many human diseases.

Unhappily rats cause a huge amount of damage to human property.  This is due them constantly needing to wear away their teeth as they grow throughout their lives.  Thankfully this new invention should help stop this.  It cleverly creates a safe perimeter around your precious car or chosen property you need to protect.
